Bog Flora Identification
The plant life on the bogs of the Park is fascinating. Many of the plants have unusual adaptations to survive in this unique and extreme environment. In the Park, carnivorous plants like Sundew can be found. In early summer, the blue flower of Lesser Butterwort, another insect eating plant can be seen. Other bog plants that can be found in the Park include the orange tinged Bog Asphodel and three types of purple flowering heather Ling, Bell Heather and Cross-leaved Heath. We look at bog flora on our annual Bog Walk, on training courses for teachers and on our bog ecology Leaving Certificate field study.
