Human History

The National Park was established in 1991 but the story of the people that have inhabited the Wicklow Mountains stretches back over 7,000 years. These pages give an overview of the major periods and events in the history of the Wicklow Mountains. Physical links to these past events dot the mountains including ancient burial tombs, deserted mining villages and ruined churches.
