Felled tree on Upper Lake lawns

Upper Lake Lawns

The lawns by the Upper Lake, Glendalough are a popular recreation area, especially for picnicking. The view of the Upper Lake is magnificent and the lake shore is popular for paddling. The National Park Information Office is located here. No camping or fires are allowed in this area. Pictured above is a 100 year old Lawson Cypress Chamaecyparis lawsoniana which had to be cut down after visitors lit a campfire at it's base. Eleven oak trees have been planted to take its place. In the meantime it is proving a popular climbing frame for children.
