The Coastguard helicopter is a regular sight in the Glendalough whether its involved in training or a mountain rescue. The helicopter is pictured landing on the lawns by the Upper Lake in Glendalough. The helicopter brought a visitor who was injured while attempting to climb the cliffs at the Upper Lake to hospital. Frequently, the helicopter has performed very skilful extractions of visitors who have become injured in difficult to access locations. However, poor weather conditions may make it impossible for the Coastguard to attempt a rescue. In these cases the local mountain rescue teams will manually carry the casualty to nearest accessible location for an ambulance. Depending on the remoteness of the location this may take several hours.
