Wicklow Mountains National Park
Upper Lake West Beach

Western Shore of the Upper Lake

The beach on the western shore of the Upper Lake, Glendalough is a lot less frequently visited than the beach on the eastern shore beside the lawns. It can only be reached by wading accross the Glenealo River or by finding rocks to cross further upstream. Visitors entering the lake waters must by very cautious. The lake is very deep and there are very sudden depth changes right at edge of the lake. This view is from the 'Spinc and Glenealo Valley' walking trail (white route) which runs along the cliffs above the Upper Lake. In the top-right of the picture you can see the 'Miners' Road Walk' walking trail (purple route) to the abandoned mining village at the end of the valley.
