Morning Mist on Upper Lake, Glendalough.
Early morning is one of the best times to visit the Upper Lake in Glendalough. Visitors don't start arriving at the lake in large numbers until midday so the early morning is the best time to try and catch a glimpse of the local wildlife. Red Squirrels can sometimes be seen scrambling through the treetops. Herds of Wild Goats may pass you on the woodland paths. The Upper Lake carpark doesn't open until 9.00 am but the carpark at the Glendalough Visitor Centre will be open early in the morning. From the Visitor Centre a very pleasant 1.5km walk down the 'Green Road', along the Lower Lake will bring you to the Upper Lake. Early morning is also the only time you're likely to see on the lakes one of our rarest birds the Goosander. Once a year we have a Dawn Chorus Walk which begins around 5.00am to help you identify birds and their song.
