Pictured is a red sky at night which according to the old saying is a 'shepherds delight'. The red sky indicates good weather can be expected the next day. Farmers still continue the traditional practice of sheep-grazing across the mountains during the summer months. It is an important part of maintaining the balance of the upland vegetation communities.
On a clear night the mountains are a good place to see the stars. There are no streetlights to dim your view. You may see an orange glow north of the mountains which is emanating from the lights of Dublin City.
